The advantage of losing weight quickly is that seeing your fat losses in the mirror is a great motivation to see your plan through and get down to your target weight. This is exactly what I did when I went from 189 to 145 lbs. In this article, I’ll first show you the fastest way to lose weight and then I’ll show you a better but still fast alternative that I used myself.

First of all there is the diet side. Most dieticians recommend losing one pound per week which can be achieved by eating 500 calories less than your body needs daily (roughly 2,500 for men, 2,000 for women).

In fact, you can get away with a deficit of 1,000 calories instead of 500 which means losing two pounds per week. That’s the diet side, now how about the exercise side?

You can lose even more weight with vigorous exercise. By far the best exercise for losing weight is called HIIT (high impact interval training). This means 15 minutes total of doing 20 second runs followed immediately by 20 second sprints and then repeating over and over again.

Combined together, this is easily the quickest way to lose weight. But it’s also one of the hardest and most people will break!

My Way

I lost 44 lbs in 4 months which is still quite fast weight loss. That works out to around two and a half pounds per week lost.

For my diet, I started to eat more healthily. I started with a great breakfast that had to include fruit. For lunch and dinner I ate half of what I used to eat. This meant that I was no longer eating too much i.e. eating when I was not even hungry. I probably ate around 750 to 1000 calories less than my body needed.

For exercise, I did not even consciously try to lose weight. I simply bought a bicycle and used it to get around. When you’re on a bike you’re totally focussed – you don’t even think about how tired you might get or how much energy you have left. You’re too busy avoiding traffic!

But I only recommend exercise if you do it for recreation. The weight loss is just a secondary benefit. I don’t recommend gyms because they are so damn boring that most people just cancel their membership after a while.
