Learning About Real Food Diets: A Path To Better Health

Possibly you’ve learned that real food diets are great for your health…but are you aware precisely how good? Are you aware that eating a real food diet will help with the majority of the most common illnesses we face?

Long-term and severe medical problems – morbid obesity, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, digestive problems, Alzheimer’s disease, chronic fatigue, ADHD – are all too widespread. Worse, their occurrence continues to increase and also to affect younger people.

Sadly – we appear to have come to simply accept all of that as normal, viewing poor health as being in some way inevitable. For the answers, we seek out more and better prescriptions and medical procedures. We aren’t encouraged to look to our diet to improve our health.

What’s promising – in a way – is that many of our worst health problems are in reality brought on by our poor diet. It’s unfortunate, but it also means that bettering our diet can greatly benefit our health! We only need to learn the truth of how to do it.

Conventional wisdom about what comprises a healthy and balanced diet is gradually being proven to be incorrect – although this knowledge is a bit slow to come to light. Many big manufacturers in the food business have a lot invested in preserving things as they are. Medical practitioners and scientists are often slow to change their advice as well.

One of several big problems with our normal diet is that it includes far too many refined carbohydrates, including much too much additional sugar. This intake can eventually exhaust the body’s capacity to process it, resulting in a condition called insulin resistance.

This issue leads progressively to inflammation in the body and degenerative disorders including arthritis, certain kinds of cancer, heart disease, hypertension, osteoporosis, strokes, and type 2 diabetes. A proper real food diet is enormously helpful in averting this.

Another significant diet concern is that we eat the wrong balance of fats – often while we are diligently trying to be healthy. In avoiding saturated fat, we consume too much hydrogenated vegetable oil, industrially raised meat, eggs, and dairy, and farmed fish.

If we stay with the traditionally produced options – natural oils, pasture-fed meat and dairy, and wild fish, we see that fat in our diet is in fact extremely good for us – even saturated fat. Eating a real food diet, with plenty of good fats, can enhance heart health and cholesterol profiles, alleviate depression, strengthen the immune system, and help us absorb additional nutrients. Best of all, eating the right balance of fats can actually help us burn fat!

A third difficulty is that industrial food production tends to take things that are healthy for us out of our food. At the same time, it adds things back that aren’t healthy for us. The result is that we’re often overfed, but undernourished, and our bodies have to filter out additional toxins.

Conventionally grown food of all types tends to have lower nutritional value than organic or traditionally grown products. This happens for a number of reasons, but the lack can leave you short of beneficial vitamins, antioxidants, and other micronutrients. All of these substances play an important role in preventing disease and supporting health.

On top of that, conventionally grown produce comes with a generous helping of pesticide residues. These can interfere with good health in multiple ways, including disrupting hormone function and causing infertility and cancer.

In the same manner, a number of the additives in manufactured foods are also toxic to the body. Sometimes, these ingredients can disrupt your metabolism to the point of making it very difficult to lose weight. Unfortunately, more often than not, you’ll find these additives in packaged “diet” foods. Real foods, such as real butter, eggs, and grass-fed beef, won’t have them.

It’s a complicated story – eating a conventional diet can negatively influence your health in many, many ways. Happily, the solution is simple. Turning to a real food diet can eliminate or prevent more health problems than you can imagine – and taste wonderful while doing so.
